Ambetter is a health insurance company owned by the Centene Corporation, which is a multi-national healthcare company that provides programs and services to under-insured and uninsured individuals. Ambetter offers customers affordable health care plans in 14 states including Arkansas, Arizona, Georgia, Florida, Indiana, and Nevada, among others.

Ambetter is Centene Corporation’s option for a health insurance marketplace, so it’s intended for individuals who lack health insurance, and possibly don’t qualify for traditional plans.

What’s Included in Ambetter’s Health Insurance Plans?

Ambetter health insurance plans offer prescription coverage, mental and behavioral health services, integrated care management, maternity and newborn care, 24/7 nurse advice line, Ambetter Telehealth, My Health Pays Rewards, and optional vision and dental coverage for adults.

The company has three plan options to choose from: Ambetter Essential Care, Ambetter Balanced Care, and Ambetter Secure Care, which are classified as bronze, silver, and gold, respectively.

The Ambetter Essential Care offers lower monthly premium payments, but higher out-of-pocket expenses, the Ambetter Balanced Care offers the best balance between monthly premium payments and out-of-pocket expenses, and the Ambetter Secure Care has higher monthly premium payments, but limits your out-of-pocket expenses.

Each plan has a different type of coverage and payment, but all of them include essential health benefits such as emergency services, hospitalization. outpatient or ambulatory services, preventive and wellness services, maternity and newborn care, pediatric services, mental health and substance abuse services, and laboratory services, among others.

Final Thoughts

Overall, Ambetter offers flexible healthcare options that fit different budgets and needs, with a few perks like the company’s My Health Pays Rewards, which allows customers to pay for medical expenses with the money they earn through the program, a 24/7 nurse advice line, and Ambetter Telehealth, which provides 24/7 phone or video access to in-network providers for non-emergency health issues. Additionally, Ambetter members can manage and pay for their account online, and the company’s website offers helpful tools like a provider search engine, and educational articles for those who want to learn more about insurance.

Having said that, Ambetter health insurance also has its drawbacks, like the fact that it’s only available in 15 states, you must sign up during the open enrollment period, and that the company may have stricter requirements to qualify than other traditional insurance companies, so customers should keep this in mind before purchasing.

Completely disorganized after 3 years of coverage the left and right do not communicate. Their database for members is unreliable, and customer service is telling clients they must get providers credentials as they are not up to date. What a complete failure Ambetter you are more like Amaweful, Ambad, Amcrap, etc.

BTW, I purchased a PPO and they keep saying it's not covered because they are not in network...I purchased a PPO so I would not have to stay in network. The WORST Insurance, Customer Service is outside the United States and is trusted with our most private information. Most Dentist and Eye Doctors do not take them bc they do not pay. Do not cover regular meds as they stated do.

Ambetter Health Insurance review Why is Ambetter of Oklahoma contracting its customer service with a company outside the United States? This is some of our most private information. This is wrong on so many levels. It is very difficult to communicate with persons that to do not understand. It is a constant language barrier. I am constantly calling to find out why they have not covered something. This last time it was simply medication. I was transferred 4 times and had to verify each time, the call took over 48 minutes, and I still did not get the problem solved. I have been taking the same meds for the last 7 years and Ambetter states I need to have my doctor pre-authorize it. They are ...Read More

Made two calls to Ambetter Health Insurance and agents could not communicate in English with any degree of competency, was given false information, and wasted my time....All this and I pay a monthly premium for this type of customer service.

First of all, let me start by saying Ambetter is a good Insurance company. I had them last year and never had any problems, but when I did have a problem that's when I realized a weakness with Ambetter. Yes, the customer service and as a former customer service manager for 10 years. I was literally taken back at how what seems to be such a good insurance company with good plans and products could have such horrible customer service. I had to call 5 times to get to talk to a team lead who in all honesty wasn't any better than the customer service representatives I had spoken to previously. They all had the same things in common; they spoke broken English, they did not speak with any so...Read More

So far, WORST INSURANCE Ive had to deal with. Only had coverage 2 weeks and I’ve had to call 3 x to get the correct PCP on my account. Now they have denied a medication I’ve been on over a year stating I needed to try something else. UNBELIEVABLE!!! They have already caused me mental anguish. I have so many regrets switching from BCBS. So BEWARE

This company is very money hungry and does not know how to talk and take care of their clients. I needed to reenroll in there program but they doubled my insurance and i could not afford that amount. I called and cancelled my insurance so they would not take the money out of my account. I was told they would not take the money but then decided to take the money on Christmas eve. We then called again and were told that the money would be back in our account after 3-5 business days. We are on day 8 and now we are being told it will take up to 20 days. DO NOT USE THIS HEALTH INSURANCE.

This insurance is the worst i have ever dealt with i have epilepsy and are dealing with seizures all the time. I have VNS device so that it can prevent some of more severe seizures along with medication. In my area unfortunately only one provider is available to service this device and they do not accept Ambetter, after 9month and a lot of phone calls and waiting time they agreed to out of network visit to this physician they have given authorization number for billing Ambetter. When i checked in for a visit they have collected the right amount of co-pay and let me know that they have authorization number to bill Ambetter. After trying to collect Ambetter denied payment and they billed ...Read More

This is the worst insurance I have ever had. I am paying $1167 dollars a month, and they never want to pay for anything. I have had nothing but problems with trying to get any of my health concerns addressed. I get the run around to get a preauthorization for everything my doctor wants and then I'm told that they have a preferred way of doing things, even if it's not in my best interest. This company does not care about the patient and just wants to take your money for nothing. This company should be investigated for fraud and shut down. I do not recommend this Insurance to anyone that cares about their health.

Don’t cover common medications even though they say they do. They also repeatedly call to question whether you need to be on your current medication including questioning meds for cholesterol and high blood pressure.

Had to have an X-ray ..would have been cheaper without insurance because my state has a payment thing off for low income people ..have ALWAYS had to pay full price for my meds ..they lie about coverage on card all they cover is part of my Dr visits ..they definitely a nightmare and would never recommend

This company is an absolute nightmare to deal with—completely incompetent, disorganized, and downright frustrating. The so-called "support" team is outsourced, and none of them are properly trained. Every single person you talk to gives you a different answer, and when you check with your healthcare provider, they’ll tell you something completely different. No one knows what they’re doing! To make matters worse, their customer service reps will literally call you about serious issues while driving with their windows down—unprofessional and ridiculous! And don’t think you’ll get any real help EVEN if you escalate the issue (which you will, constantly). The worst part? This garbage in...Read More

AmWorse! DO NOT GET THIS INSURANCE!! I wish I would have come here first before I enrolled. Everything I have read on here is spot on. And these reviews go back to 2017! I just started with them and the Primary Care place they assigned me to is a special clinic for HIV/AIDS. They just plugged in my address--the hell? Then I tried to call a doctor that said it is accepting new patients. Three days in a row I have called and NO ONE has even called me back! It's been a week. So I went and looked on the website again--called a new place. "No, we only have two doctors and no nurse practitioners and you'll have to come in for an appointment even for a refill on an Rx you already ha...Read More

I moved from Oklahoma to Texas and could no longer be covered by the plan I originally signed up for. I signed up on November 1, 2024 for coverage to be effective January 1, 2025. I have been trying to get that prepaid premium refunded since November 20, 2024 when I moved to Texas. It is now December 30. No one seems to understand this simple request. I have been shuffled from one representative after another. I have spent hours and hours and hours and hours on the phone trying to get this resolved. What must a person do to get a refund for health coverage that hasn't even started yet???

Poor Health insurance company. Incompetent Customer Service who give generic answers and roll over issues and agent concerns to other entities and always delayed website issues.

We have had the worst experiences with this company. They do not pay anything and it seems that they will go out of their way to make your life way more difficult that it needs to be. I spent 4 months trying to get a payment that had been applied to our daughters account moved to our account (which is where the payment should have been applied to in the first place) I had to email all kinds of documentation and had to keep going back saying that they have the payment wrong. Then finally they corrected the payment only to find out that they don't cover anything. Any referral isn't covered under no circumstances. I would use this insurance company for nothing. Once this year is over ...Read More

I only read a couple of comments, but agree. If it is possible to avoid this company and get any other insurance, you're better off getting the other insurance. The correct name for these plans is "you cannot be stupid enough to think we will payout or provide any coverage". But, in all fairness, I signed up for it. I must be that stupid. Hence I am taking the time to write this, do yourself and run and get a different plan. This one doesn't pay for anything. Prescriptions are much more affordable with GoodRX. If you get blood drawn, etc., you should tell them you are a cash patient, it costs less. Simply put, horrid insurance. Horrid.

This company is only a front for the Marketplace. My son went into the Navy, we cancelled the policy and they kept billing us anyways, said we had to call back to the Marketplace to cancel. My son is in the military so he can't call. Joke of a company.

This is THE worst fucking insurance company I’ve ever had to deal with in my life. Do NOT get this insurance. I have had gastrointestinal issues for a month and a half. There is not a gastrointestinal doctor within an hour and 15 minutes that will take the suck ass Insurance. I want to sue them so bad.

If I could give this ridiculous company 100 negative stars, I would. I wish I had ten dollars for every hour I've spent on hold or tried talking to one of their CSRs, who I can never understand. I could probably buy a new BMW. Absolute slow leaks, all of them. For four years, they have messed up EVERYTHING humanly possible. HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE!

I can't get an appointment because no one takes Ambetter. The website isn't updated, customer service admitted this. I called them and they were supposed to call me back with doctors that will accept insurance from them. No one called.
